The stream gains speed as it runs towards the first of the eight falls, Pennell Falls, continuing through narrow Laurel Glen and Upper Canyon until it drops dramatically over a 100 foot cliff, creating magnificent Main Falls. It forms a beautiful, deep, cool pool surrounded by ferns and flowers before dropping another 70 feet.
Hickory Run State Park, located in Carbon County, stretches across 15,990 acres in the less forested western foothills of the Pocono Mountains. With extensive snowmaking capabilities, Jack Frost Big Boulder has consistently been the first park in the area to open and the last to close each season. Rental shops are located at the base of each mountain and offer tune and repair services in addition to equipment rentals. Lockers and bag checks are available at both mountains and may be used daily, or guests may purchase annual passes to store belongings through the season.

In the 1940s at the height of the coal mining industry, employees of the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company built a company retreat on the shores of Lake Harmony called the Split Rock Club, which included the Hazzard Ski Slope. In 1947, the lodge was sold and Hazzard became known as the Big Boulder Ski Area. Ongoing Programs and Education: The Ski School at JFBB offers a variety of programming for children and adults. Children’s Day Programs are available for kids aged 3-10. Adult Group Programs offer 1 or 3-hour lessons for beginners or advanced skiers. An Adaptive Program is available on weekends for skiers with disabilities.
Junior development and ski teams meet each weekend throughout the season, and there is a racing program available for parents as well. Located in the Pocono Plateau, which is within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, the Pocono Environmental Education Center was established in 1972 after the controversial Tocks Island Dam project was abandoned.
