This will cause a lot more traffic in the elemental plateau in Nagrand and the Fel Pits In Shadowmoon Valley as there are a lot fewer places to farm motes for Primal fires. Blizzard should really add more places that these can drop. By the way, the only mentioned places so far are Nagrand, Blade’s Edge, and the midddle of Shadowmoon Valley. The main reason I say it is so much more difficult is you end up trying to farm around 72 Elites, half of which patrol, and jump you if you aren’t careful. I end up basically turning out even with my gear repair vs the elemental fragments that drop for money collected. Comment by 256I have been farming Shadowmoon for these for the past week.

I killed 15 of the things, and only one of them didn’t drop a Mote of Fire.
What you see here is actually a quirk of the way Blizzard handles the spell. You use the first mote, destroying it in the process. A spell is cast, which destroys the other nine motes, and creates a primal. This spell here–step two–is the spell that gets listed here on Wowhead. I had my flying mount bound to the middle mouse button while I was at this so I could mount easily and fast after each mob.

I tried the Throne of Kil’jaeden as others here suggested, but found the drop rate there to be abysmal. I would also suggest this as the place to farm for Motes of Air. Bear in mind: you’ll still be spending a lot of time farming unless you get incredibly lucky with drops. The Elemental Plateau in Nagrand, in my experience has a much worse respawn rate. Heroic Shattered Halls and kill the executioner after the last boss. I got 10 in about 15 minutes which is absolutely great! I spent an hour at the Throne and ended up with over 30 Primal Fire’s! The first spot is located in Nagrand but please note that its a well known spot and it can be high populated sometimes. The second spot is located in Hellfire Peninsula and you want to come over to the Throne of Kill’Jaeden. Once you are there you will also see some Fire Elementals walking around.
What you want to do is kill those Fire Elementals, loot the Mote of Fire and once you have 10 on them convert them into a Primal Fire. I had gotten another 6 in the first 5 I killed. I have still never discovered a primal transmute in months of doing pyrium bar transmutes on my main xmute master alchemist in shadowlands. I was thinking that because they changed the requirements of the xmute master in MoP, perhaps the transmute masters cast a secretly different spell to transmute and they don’t have the chance of discovery. Primal Fire is an elemental crafting material. Miners can sunder this primal back into motes.
